Why Netanyahu gave Germany’s FM the Silence treatment. The way the PM sees it, he’s snubbed a waning politician from a country most Israelis believe has no right to preach democracy to Jews, for meeting a widely loathed fringe group. When trying to understand what led Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cancel his planned meeting with Sigmar Gabriel over the German foreign minister’s sit-down with a leftist NGO, it is easy to recall Henry Kissinger’s old adage that “Israel has no foreign policy; it has only a domestic policy.” Get The Times of Israel’s Daily Edition by email

But the tale of how a top minister from a friendly country was declared persona non grata at the Prime Minister’s Office has international dimensions as well. Netanyahu evidently wanted to gain favor with his right-wing base, but he and his aides were also aware of the move’s potentially far-reaching repercussions beyond Israel’s borders. After weighing the pros and cons, he nonetheless decided to go ahead and boycott the foreign minister of the country with which the Jewish state has the most sensitive relations of all. Did he get his calculations right? The saga started when Netanyahu’s office presented Gabriel with an ultimatum ahead of his first visit to Israel as foreign minister: either he canceled his planned sit-down with Breaking the Silence, or he would be disinvited from the Prime Minister’s Office.
Few organizations are more despised on the Israeli right — and by many who are not on the right — than Breaking the Silence, which publishes anonymous testimonies documenting alleged human rights abuses by Israeli soldiers. Hence, the decision to punish Gabriel for meeting the NGO’s leadership played well with Netanyahu’s political base and even won him rare accolades from some political rivals. Even the opposition did not rush with its usual enthusiasm to accuse him of destroying Israel’s foreign relations by snubbing Angela Merkel’s foreign minister and vice chancellor.
A few days after Netanyahu and his Likud party had come under fire for their rough and rude treatment of bereaved families, and less than a week before Israel’s Memorial Day for fallen soldiers, indeed, the German minister’s insistence on meeting the unpopular NGO may have been regarded as something as a godsend by Netanyahu. It was the perfect opportunity for him to portray himself as a fearless protector of Israeli warriors and of their good name, a principled prime minister ready to stand up for them even if it meant snubbing a German minister.
Gabriel’s British colleague, Boris Johnson, met with Peace Now while on a trip to Israel, and US President Donald Trump’s special envoy Jason Greenblatt spent several hours with Palestinian organizations that have an equally negative view of Israeli policies in the West Bank. Neither got the Netanyahu boycott treatment. The prime minister has determined that Breaking the Silence belongs in a different category because it targets Israeli soldiers; his deputy foreign minister, Tzipi Hotovely, had no hesitation in branding Breaking the Silence an “enemy” in a Wednesday interview on Army Radio, and in differentiating it from other left-wing Israeli NGOs, because, she said, it seeks to get Israel’s soldiers prosecuted for war crimes at The Hague. “Prime Minister Netanyahu’s policy is not to meet foreign visitors who on diplomatic trips to Israel meet with groups that slander IDF soldiers as war criminals,” his office declared Tuesday evening. “Diplomats are welcome to meet with representatives of civil society but Prime Minister Netanyahu will not meet with those who lend legitimacy to organizations that call for the criminalization of Israeli soldiers.”

The domestic benefit was clear. But why did Netanyahu think it wise to antagonize the German foreign minister over talks with a marginal group that few people in Europe have ever heard of?
For one thing, he seems to have calculated that the fallout would be negligible. After all, what punitive steps could Berlin take? Merkel’s regret was a price Netanyahu was willing to pay.
Due to its dark history, Germany is sworn to solidarity with the Jewish people and has declared support for Israel as sacrosanct. Netanyahu knew that Germany would likely react to the affront by publicly turning the other cheek. And so it proved. While claiming that Israel would think “we were crazy” if Germany treated a visiting Israeli leader in the same way, Gabriel also declared, minutes after being disinvited, that the whole episode was “no catastrophe” and promised that Berlin’s relationship to Jerusalem would remain unchanged.

Privately, relations between Berlin and Jerusalem have been tense for years. It is hardly a secret that she cancelled joint Israeli-German government consultations originally planned for May 10 not because, as was publicly claimed, she is too busy preparing for the September election — she found time to host Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas last month — but because she was angry about Israeli legislation to retroactively legalize illegal West Bank outposts.

Gabriel, it should be noted, is no unknown quantity when it comes to Middle East policy. The son of an unrepentant Nazi and Holocaust denier (whom he disavowed), Gabriel angered Israelis in 2012 when he accused them of running an “apartheid regime” in Hebron. He also infuriated Iranians when he insisted they recognize Israel’s right to exist before Germany will normalize relations in Tehran. Ironically, he was snubbed by Iran’s parliament speaker over this demand. Back home, his political star seems to be fading. Once expected to become the Social Democratic Party’s choice to challenge Merkel’s center-right CDU party in this year’s elections, he was bested inside the party by Martin Schulz. Since Schulz was nominated party chief and candidate for chancellor, the party has gained in the polls, fueling rumors that Gabriel will quit politics after the election.
So where Gabriel was personally concerned, too, Netanyahu may have concluded that he had little to lose and much to gain by vexing a waning politician from a country that most Israelis believe has no right to preach about democracy to Jews.
“Our relations with Germany are strong and important and will also continue as such,” Netanyahu declared confidently on Tuesday evening, at about the same hour that Gabriel was sitting down in Herzliya with the heads of Breaking the Silence and another left-wing NGO, B’Tselem.
The downside
The prime minister also clearly wanted to send a message to other world leaders coming to Jerusalem: If you legitimize Breaking the Silence, you will not be welcome in my office. Gabriel-Gate might make the next visiting leader think twice before scheduling an itinerary like Gabriel’s.

Nonetheless, by declaring a meeting with Breaking the Silence so outrageous as to merit the snub, the prime minister also conferred on the fringe group unprecedented political importance.
And he strengthened the impression that his government is increasing its crackdown on pro-Palestinian groups: What began with various bills aimed to make it harder for some NGOs to carry out their work, now extends to pressuring foreign dignitaries into avoiding contact with certain groups Netanyahu disapproves of.
“He could be called Vladimir Tayyip Netanyahu,” a prominent German columnist wrote on Wednesday, in an unflattering comparison with the leaders of two increasingly autocratic regimes.
It wasn’t only anti-Semites and known Israel-haters in Germany who took issue with Netanyahu’s move. Politicians from across the spectrum, including staunch supporters of Israel, slammed the ultimatum and praised Gabriel for not giving in.
“Prohibiting conversations is really not okay,” said MP Volker Beck, who heads the German-Israeli Parliamentary Friendship Group. While he called on Berlin to investigate whether the episode could have been avoided by meeting with different NGOs, Beck said he hoped Jerusalem realizes that the existence of groups like Breaking the Silence underlines Israel’s claim to be the only democracy in the Middle East.

Sanctioning talks with civil society organizations is very unusual and deeply regrettable, agreed MP Norbert Röttgen, a former minister from Merkel’s center-right party. “I hope this was a one-time slip.”
But Netanyahu does not consider his action a gaffe made in the heat of the moment or a diplomatic miscalculation he will not repeat. Asserting an ironclad belief in Israel’s growing diplomatic might, especially in the Trump era, he declared on Tuesday night that “I am leading Israel’s foreign relations to unprecedented growth. But I am doing so based on a proud and assertive national policy, not out of weakness and with a bowed head.”
A few hours later, during an event at the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem, he added that Israel is “considered a rising world power.”
It is his confidence in the increasing indispensability of Israel to allies and potential allies worldwide, and his particular belief in the critical value to them of Israel’s hi-tech and counterterrorism knowhow, that help explain the harsh punitive measures Netanyahu took against the United Nations and co-sponsors of December’s anti-settlement resolution at the Security Council, and that guided his boycott of Gabriel.
Has he also sidelined an organization that, Netanyahu said, “seeks to put our soldiers on trial as war criminals”? Or is he isolating Israel far more than a marginal group like Breaking the Silence ever could? Time, and the itineraries of foreign dignitaries, will tell.

La Turchia corre in soccorso del Califfato Alessandro Lattanzio, 26/4/2017Il 25 aprile, 26 velivoli dell’aviazione turca bombardavano le basi curde e yezidi sul Jabal Qarju, nella regione di Shinqal, tra la Siria e l’Iraq, nei pressi di Dariq, distruggendo una base delle YPG, una stazione radio e un centro mediatico del PYD, ed uccidendo 20 combattenti delle YPG e 5 peshmerga curdi iracheni. Il leader del Partito dell’Unione Democratica Curda (PYD) Salih Muslim affermava che “gli aerei da guerra turchi non possono volare nella zona senza l’approvazione della coalizione. La coalizione deve fare una dichiarazione, sapeva dell’attacco? Gli statunitensi dispongono di basi militari a sud di Ayn al-Arab e presso Qamishli, in Siria, dove opera il 75.mo Reggimento Ranger delle forze speciali statunitensi, che partecipano alle operazioni delle SDF/YPG contro le basi dello SIIL a Raqqa e a Tabaqa.
Tutto ciò avveniva pochi giorni dopo che la Russia riattivava la linea telefonica tra i militari russi e statunitensi in Siria, dopo aver chiarito agli Stati Uniti che le loro operazioni aeree in Siria dipendono dall’accordo russo e che la Russia non le permetterà se gli Stati Uniti effettueranno ulteriori attacchi contro la Siria. La linea era stata riattivata il giorno dopo la richiesta personale del segretario di Stato USA Rex Tillerson al Ministro degli Esteri russo Lavrov, il 21 aprile.Nel frattempo, il governatore generale di Dara, Muhamad Qalid al-Hanus, osservava la preparazione dell’Esercito arabo siriano nell’affrontare qualsiasi possibile aggressione da parte degli Stati Uniti e dei loro alleati, “Gli Stati Uniti sono il principale sostenitore della guerra contro la Siria e aiutano i terroristi a Dara dalla Giordania. Il Presidente siriano Bashar al-Assad aveva dichiarato che Damasco ha intelligence sulla Giordania intenzionata a dispiegare proprie truppe in Siria in coordinamento con gli Stati Uniti. “Abbiamo queste informazioni, ma in ogni caso la Giordania fa parte dei piani statunitensi sin dall’inizio della guerra in Siria. Gli Stati Uniti definiscono i piani e gli attori e appoggiano tutto ciò che colpisce la Siria dalla Giordania, e i molti terroristi che provengono dalla Giordania e, naturalmente, dalla Turchia, fin dal primo giorno di guerra in Siria”. La dichiarazione osservava i colloqui tra il presidente degli Stati Uniti Donald Trump e il re Giordano Abdullah II alla Casa Bianca sul Medio Oriente. La Giordania rientra nella coalizione degli Stati Uniti contro lo ISIIL, che effettua attacchi aerei in Siria senza l’approvazione delle autorità siriane, violando il diritto internazionale.

“Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of God’s household…”
(Ephesians 2:19) FELLOWSHIP FUNCTION OF THE CHURCH. As Christians we are called to belong — not just believe. We are not meant to be loners but true members of His Body — part of Jesus’ family. It is thus important for Christians to spend time together to share their spiritual lives, encourage each other and have fellowship. Satan brings all his efforts to bear upon Christians to prevent this fellowship. He realises that believers need to help and strengthen each other, so he will try to prevent it by promoting indifference or by using the force of circumstances (Hebrews 10:24,25). Even informal or casual meetings can be used by the Lord for strengthening Christians, especially when formal meetings and large group fellowships are forbidden. Of course, large meetings can be useful, too. But normally, more help is given one-to-one in small “cell” groups where specific needs can be shared, discussed and ministered to in-depth.
Mona’s story is a good illustration. It wasn’t only that she was raped when she sneaked across the border into Malaysia. It wasn’t simply because she sent her daughter back to Burma and had never seen her since she was a baby. It wasn’t just the violence of those terrifying days in the ‘80’s in Rangoon when students and soldiers clashed in the streets forcing her husband (then a student) and her to flee the country.
It was the thousand nights of loneliness. The trauma of the past haunted her. The papers she needed to stay in Malaysia legally. Papers that she could not acquire. The possibility of arrest and punishment by police.
The nightmares came on leathery wings of fear, dug their claws deeply and took up residence in her psyche. Her mind, once sound and clear, clouded with doubts and delusions: the sound of voices she did not know and horrifying images that would not go away.
But hers was not a life destined for darkness. The clouds were pulled away slowly, partly by the psychiatrist at the General Hospital, secured for her by the volunteers at the free medical clinic. Also by the kindness of strangers who reached out their hands in generosity.
It was the moment Mona was able to tell another woman in her own language of her troubles; this was when the first ray of light cut through the cloud and shone the possibility of hope into her circumstance.
Later, it was the time she spent with other women from Burma at the church. It was the songs they sang, the shared experience and language, the friendship, the food, the games.
Fellowship is life-giving to those who have been deprived of it.

From song and poetry to wartime resistance, the Jewish world has wrestled with The Akedah, the binding of Isaac.
How could a Loving God we call “Father” ask any human father to sacrifice his son?
And how could any loving father obey such a command?
Though the questions seem unsolvable, Jewish scholars and sages have answers that help us more clearly see who our Messiah is and what he would do when he comes.
A key to understanding this event and others in the Hebrew Scriptures (Old Testament) is to understand how types and shadows are strategically used to point us to future events, like the coming of the Messiah. Let’s take a look at how that works.
But first we will begin by experiencing the Akedah with Abraham.

It Began With a Father’s Love
“Here I am,” Abraham calls out. He seems to recognize God’s voice.
“Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love,” God says, “and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you.” (Genesis 22:2)
Early the next morning, after making preparations, Abraham, Isaac, and two men head off on a three-day journey to Moriah.
Today, we know this place as the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, about 100 km (60 miles) north of Be’er Sheva where they were living.
Upon arrival, Abraham and Isaac set off up the hill leaving the others behind.

Carrying the wood, Isaac asks, “Where’s the Lamb?”
“God Himself will provide,” Abraham answers.
On the hill, a stone altar is made. The wood is laid out. Isaac is bound and placed on the wood.
Abraham slowly takes the knife, placing it at Isaac’s throat ready to make a fatal cut.
Only at this point does God intervene by sending an angel to stop Abraham from sacrificing his son.
“Now I know that you fear God,” says the angel, and a ram suddenly appears to be used for the sacrifice, instead of his son.
That is the story of the Akedah.
Now, let us take a look at how types and shadows point us to future events.
Types and Shadows
Your shadow says a lot about you. It can tell the world, to a certain extent, what you are doing and even how you are doing it. But in the end, it is not you. It only points to you, the real you.
Your shadow is called a type of you, and you are called the antitype. That is not an insult.
In a similar way, the Bible has many types or foreshadows that say a lot about their antitype in a future time. They tell the world, to a certain extent, what will happen and what it may look like.
They were not written to predict the future as a prophecy. But they can help us to better understand and recognize the antitype they point to, when it comes into view.
A type of the Messiah, for instance, can help us understand what the Messiah will be and what he will do, but that type is not him.
As you can imagine, identifying and interpreting types and antitypes is often based on one’s own perspective.
Nevertheless, the Hebrew sages have a doctrine similar to “types and shadows” that help them understand how God had been working in the Hebrew Scriptures.
As Our Fathers Did …
Ma’aseh Avot Siman l’Banim (What our fathers did, our sons also).
This Hebrew principle tells us that some of what our Avot (Fathers) experienced, their descendants may also experience, not only in actions but also in character traits.
Those experiences present two kinds of blueprints:
“One of the overriding themes of the book of Genesis is that the actions of the forefathers foreshadow events that will happen to their descendants (ma’aseh avot siman l’banim).
“The blueprint of Jewish history is contained in this first book of the Chumash [known as the Law or the first five books of the Bible],” writes Rabbi Yissocher Frand on Israel’s Torah blog. (June 7, 2002)
The experiences of the Avot also present a personality blueprint of the future, explained the Russian Talmudist and ethicist Rabbi Chaim of Volozhin, Lithuania (1749–1821).
In this thinking, the Avot foreshadow our character legacy. For instance,
“If we have within ourselves the spiritual capability to go to martyrdom for the sake of Torah [God’s written Law] and Mitzvot [613 commandments in the Law], it is only because we have received this character trait as a legacy from our distant ancestors,” writes Rabbi Frand in Torah blog, Israel. This doctrine of “Ma’aseh Avot Siman L’Banim also has an aspect of prophecy in it. There are predictions in the Torah that we can see, if we know how to go about looking for them.” (Rabbi Benjamin Blech, “Deed & Creed” Class 17, p. 3, Jewish Pathways, 2007, pdf)
We can see this prophetic aspect of Scripture in the mocking and animosity between Isaac (Father of the Twelve Tribes of Israel) and Ishmael (Father of the Arab peoples). Their tension demonstrates the continual attitude of hostility between the Jewish people and the Arab nations today (Genesis 21).
In another example, Pharaoh sends Abram and Sarai out of Egypt with gifts after God brings plagues on his home (Genesis 12:17–20). Four hundred thirty years later, Pharaoh sends the Israelites out of Egypt after God brings plagues on his land. They leave with gifts. (Exodus 12:35–41; Psalm 105:37).
Now, what about Abraham who is asked to sacrifice his beloved son, Isaac? The one he loves. The one who brings joy. The one named Laughter.
Is there an aspect of foreshadowing and prophecy to this story?

Secular View: The Akedah is a story for Abraham’s time
Some believe this story is just that, a story for its time. It simply demonstrates how the Hebrew nation was established by God to be different than the pagan nations surrounding it.
The implication is that God tested Abraham, but that God did this to show how acceptable human sacrifice was in ancient times, and that the one true God would have nothing to do with it.
God clearly does not condone child sacrifice.
Sixteen passages in the Bible tell us that child sacrifice is condemned as an abomination before God (Leviticus 18:21; 20:1-8; Deuteronomy 12:31; 18:10; 2 Kings 13:27; 16:3; 17:17, 31; 21:6; 23:10; Jeremiah 7:31; 19:5; Ezekiel 20:31; Micah 6:7; 2, Chronicles 28:3; 33:6).
Is the Akedah simply a story?

View 1: The Akedah is a test prompted by Satan.
Rabbis have argued in the past that God tested Abraham at the prompting of Satan, similar to how Satan tested Job, with God’s approval (Job 1:6–22)
We read in Rabbinic literature that Satan was accusing Abraham before God, saying,
“‘Of every feast that Abraham made, he did not sacrifice before You one bull or one ram!’ He [God] said to him, ‘Does he do anything but for his son? Yet, if I were to say to him, “Sacrifice him before Me,” he would not withhold [him].’”
(Rabbi Shlomo Itzhaki (1040–1105), known as Rashi in his commentary on Genesis 22, where he references a discussion of several Rabbis from the Mishnaic Period (AD 10–220) as recorded in the Talmud: Sanhedrin 89b)
This idea that God was challenged by Satan to test Abraham made it into popular culture when the late Leonard Cohen, a Jewish music artist, rebuked Congress for sending America’s sons off to war.

In his 1969 song, The Story of Isaac, Cohen wrote:
You who build these altars now,
to sacrifice these children,
you must not do it anymore.
A scheme is not a vision,
and you never have been
tempted by a demon or a god.
You who stand above them now,
your hatchets blunt and bloody,
you were not there before.
When I lay upon a mountain
and my father’s hand was trembling
with the beauty of the world.
But Lorenzo, we don’t read in Scripture that Satan tempted Abraham as we do with Job, so is that what really happened?

View 2: The Akedah is a type of atonement
God set up a system for the Hebrew people to atone or cover their sins so they can get right with Him.
Part of that system involved a blood offering from a spotless animal, often a lamb, goat, or bull (see Leviticus 4 and 16).
Many Rabbis today teach that human blood has never been an acceptable offering to the Lord and cannot atone for the sins of man.
Therefore, these Rabbis say that according to Judaism, the Akedah cannot foreshadow an atonement by a person such as Yeshua, as Christians claim.
But we have found Rabbinic commentaries on the Akedah that seem to say otherwise.
Ram
In Scripture, we are told that Abraham “took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.” (Genesis 22:13)
Is it not enough that God provided a ram? Rashi asks, “Why does Scripture also say, ‘instead of his son’?”
These four words don’t have to be there. Or did they?
Rashi, one of the most revered and often quoted Jewish sage explains why it’s important to know that the ram is offered instead of Isaac:
“Over every sacrificial act that he [Abraham] performed, he prayed, ‘May it be [Your] will that this should be deemed as if it were being done to my son: as if my son were slaughtered, as if his blood were sprinkled, as if my son were flayed, as if he were burnt and reduced to ashes.” (Tan. Shelach 14]
If Rashi is correct, then every time Abraham sacrificed a lamb or goat, he thought in his mind and heart that he were slaughtering his own son Isaac and sprinkling his blood over the altar.
Why would Abraham consider such a thing if God does not accept human blood as a covering for sin?
Wolf Gunther Plaut (1912–2012) was the senior scholar and
Reform Rabbi of Holy Blossom Temple in Toronto, Canada for
several decades.
A renowned Reform Jewish Rabbi of today answers:
“There was a remarkable tradition that insisted that Abraham completed the sacrifice and that afterward Isaac was miraculously revived. According to this haggadah [telling], Abraham slew his son, burnt his victim, and the ashes remain as a stored-up merit and atonement for Israel in all generations.” (Rabbi W. Gunther Plaut, The Torah: A Modern Commentary 1981, p. 151)
Clearly, some Rabbis believed that a single, willing, human sacrifice on behalf of mankind would atone for sin.
Even Jewish scholars acknowledge the Hebrew roots of this concept.
Daniel Boyarin, professor of Talmudic Culture at the University of California, Berkeley writes in his book The Jewish Gospels:
“The notion of a dual godhead with a Father and a Son, the notion of a Redeemer who himself will be both God and man, and the notion that this Redeemer would suffer and die as part of the salvational process.
“At least some of these ideas, the Father/ Son godhead and the suffering savior, have deep roots in the Hebrew Bible as well and may be among some of the most ancient ideas about God and the world that the Israelite people ever held.”

Christian View: The Akedah Foreshadows Yeshua’s Sacrifice
For Believers in Yeshua (Jesus) as the Messiah, the Akedah is much more than a story.
Abraham is the first Avot, the Father of our Faith whose willingness to sacrifice his son is destined to repeat itself in one of his descendants.
Isaac’s role was no less crucial than Abraham’s in the eyes of the Rabbis. After all, Isaac was willing to be sacrificed in obedience to his father and the Almighty.
Let’s look at the parallels between God’s testing of Abraham to sacrifice Isaac in Genesis 22 and God’s will to sacrifice His Son Yeshua (Jesus) as seen throughout Scripture

Son of Abraham: God said, “Take your son, your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.” (Genesis 22:2)
Son of God: “It was YHWH’s will to crush Him and cause Him to suffer, and though YHWH makes His life an offering for sin.” (Isaiah 53:10; John 3:16)
The sons accept God’s will
Isaac does not rebel, but is bound and laid on the altar and wood, awaiting his end. (Genesis 22:6–11)
Yeshua affirms “not My will but Thine be done” to His Father in heaven while in the Garden of Gethsemane. (Luke 22:42; Isaiah 53:7)

The sons carry the wood
Isaac carries the wood as he and Abraham ascend Mount Moriah. (Genesis 22:6)
Yeshua carries the stake as He struggles toward Golgotha. (John 19:17)
God provides a substitute
“God Himself will provide the lamb for the burnt offering, my son,” Abraham says to Isaac. … He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son. (Genesis 2, 13)
God Himself provided “the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29)

Loved ones grieve for three days
Isaac was all but dead, in Abraham’s heart and mind during their three-day journey to Mount Moriah.
Yeshua was dead. His followers grieved during His three days in the tomb.
Faith in the resurrection
Of Isaac, the early Jewish sage, Rabbi Eliezer (c. AD 40–120) writes that Abraham believed in the resurrection of the dead:
“When Avraham Avinu (our father), put the knife to Isaac’s neck, Isaac’s soul flew away and left him. In effect, he died.
“When Avraham then heard the Heavenly Voice proclaim, ‘Send forth not your hand against the lad,’ the soul returned into Isaac’s body. “Isaac thus personally experienced the phenomenon of Techiyas haMeisim [resurrection of the dead].
“At that moment, Isaac opened his mouth and recited the blessing: Blessed Are Thou who brings the dead back to life.” (Pirkei D’Rabbi Eliezer, chapter 31; see also Hebrews 11:17–19)
Of Yeshua, even though the apostles mourned His death while He lay in the tomb, “with great power, the apostles continued to testify to the resurrection of the Lord Yeshua” after he resurrected. (Acts 4:33)

Then and Now: God’s Divine Forgiveness in the Akedah
Both Jews and Christians agree that Genesis 22 is a magnificent example of a father/son relationship of love, obedience, sacrifice, and faith.
In fact, Jewish communities worldwide read this passage on Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) along with prayers called Selichot (סליחוﬨ), prayers for forgiveness.
In some of these prayers, the Jewish People appeal to God’s mercy with Abraham during the Akedah as they seek God’s divine forgiveness for themselves today.
One part of many such prayers is translated below.

“In He who answered our father Abraham on Mount Moriah, may He answer us. He who answered his son Isaac, when he was bound on the altar [the Akedah], may He answer us. …” (Selichot According to the Chabad Custom)
The Akedah in the minds of the Rabbis was an act of such magnitude that Jewish People continue to call out to God for forgiveness based on the pious act of Abraham and the selfless sacrifice that Isaac (our Avot/type) submitted to.
The Good News is that today Believers cry out for God’s divine forgiveness based on the selfless sacrifice that Yeshua (the Son of Man/antitype) submitted to, on behalf of all mankind.
“He did not enter heaven to offer Himself again and again, like the high priest here on earth who enters the Most Holy Place year after year with the blood of an animal. If that had been necessary, Messiah would have had to die again and again, ever since the world began. But now, once for all time, He has appeared at the end of the age to remove sin by His own death as a sacrifice.” (Hebrews 9:25–26)
Lorenzo, though nearly every generation before us believed theirs was the end of the age, our generation has seen the rebirth of Israel, and that makes the end of the age a real possiblity very soon.

Profanan a la Mare de Déu de Montserrat
Estimado amigo:
En este ocasión ha sido miembros del Movimiento Arran (que se definen como movimiento radical independentista) quienes han decidido ofender a la Virgen de Montserrat y a todos los católicos.
Dos mujeres (que simulan ser lesbianas) han colgado un vídeo en el que muestran como en el camarín de la Moreneta se “morrean” y de fondo se puede oír una música con letra en castellano (no en catalán a pesar de declararse independentista) en la que se puede escuchar “saca el rosario de nuestros ovarios, saca tu doctrina de la vagina”.
Según las autoras del vídeo se pretende la “visibilización del lesbianismo”, pero el objetivo real es la ofensa a la Madre de Dios y todos los católicos, pues para su visibilización podían haber escogido un lugar no sagrado.
Por eso te pedimos que firmes nuestra petición y solicites al Defensor del Pueblo Catalán que presente denuncia ante la Fiscalía para la persecución de este delito.

Como sin duda ya sabrá el 26 de Abril se ha producido un hecho deleznable de ofensa al sentimiento religioso de los católicos.
Dos mujeres lesbianas han colgado un vídeo en el que muestran como en el camarín de la Moreneta se “morrean”, y de fondo para que quede bien clara la ofensa se puede oír una música con letra en castellano en la que se puede escuchar “saca el rosario de nuestros ovarios, saca tu doctrina de la vagina”.
Estos hechos pueden ser constitutivos de delito pues el artículo 525 del Código Penal dice que “Incurrirán en la pena de multa de ocho a doce meses los que, para ofender los sentimientos de los miembros de una confesión religiosa, hagan públicamente, de palabra, por escrito o mediante cualquier tipo de documento, escarnio de sus dogmas, creencias, ritos o ceremonias, o vejen, también públicamente, a quienes los profesan o practican.”
Es evidente que el asalto a la Mare de Déu de Montserrat se ha hecho con el único propósito de ofender, y además se ha hecho con publicidad al colgar la valiente ofensa en youtube y las redes sociales.
Por ello le pido que presente denuncia de estos hechos ante la Fiscalía y defienda los intereses de una mayoría social que está siendo continuamente atacada en sus creencias y que está siendo continuo objeto de delitos de odio.

Asia Bibi, la donna pakistana cristiana e madre di famiglia, accusata ingiustamente di blasfemia, prosegue il suo calvario nel braccio della morte di un carcere in Pakistan, sempre in attesa della sentenza definitiva.
Le recenti dichiarazioni di alcuni imam radicali hanno riacceso le luci sul caso Asia Bibi, ma anche su tutti quei cristiani accusati ingiustamente di blasfemia e per questo messi in carcere o persino terribilmente aggrediti e uccisi dalla folla.
Un caso recente è quello di uno studente di Mardan ucciso, denudato e torturato con l’accusa di offese al profeta da altri studenti.
Tutto questo continua ad essere inaccettabile e per questo vogliamo appellarci ancora una volta a Jan Figèl, rappresentante speciale per la promozione della libertà di religione o di credo al di fuori dell’Unione Europea.
