Coptic Christians Deprived of Home Worship Hall in Egypt Islamists damage, plunder four homes. By the Editor
September 26, 2018 (Morning Star News) – Nearly a year after declaring that attacks on Christians had hit a level not seen in decades, a Coptic Orthodox bishop in Egypt continues to lament a stream of incidents of violence against churches in Upper Egypt.
Coptic Orthodox Bishop-General of Minya Anba Makarios this month confirmed that an Islamist assault on four Christians’ homes after mosque prayers on Aug. 31 left two Copts with knife wounds in the head and face.
Makarios issued a statement saying the homes of Adel Saeed Rizq, Reda Abdel-Sayed Rizq, Kamel Fawzy Shahata and Fawazy Shahata Boutros in Dimshau Hashim village were damaged and plundered because the assailants objected to the Copts using a small hall in one of the homes for worship.
The village has no church facility, so after the damages to the homes, the Coptic families were forced to hold a Sept. 6 funeral in the street, according to Egyptian news outlet Watani.
At the four homes in the village in Minya Governorate, some 250 kilometers (155 miles) south of Cairo, the assailants stole gold jewelry, smashed electric equipment and set part of one property on fire. A fireman was injured attempting to douse it. The wounded Copts received treatment at Minya Public Hospital, according to Watani.
Makarios reported that Minya police arrested 38 Muslim extremists, released 19 and held another 19 for investigation on suspicion of creating unrest and assault. The bishop said the attack was motivated by the Islamists’ objection to Copts allegedly building a church facility without a license.
He said he appreciated the tight security that followed, saying officials were striving to restore Copts’ rights. The bishop said he was pained to listen to the Coptic families tell him how their terrorized children wailed during the assault, according to Watani.
Makarios said it was heart-aching that the children “should be subjected to such horror simply because their families exercised their constitutional right of freedom of worship,” according to Watani.
While striving to console them, he encouraged them to hold to the Christian tenet of entrusting themselves to God while bearing the persecution and to practice forgiveness, tolerance and patience. At the same time, he said the government is obligated to prosecute the culprits and bring them to justice, compensate the victims and reject customary “reconciliation” meetings between victim and assailant that invariably result in Muslim attackers denying religious rights to Copts, according to Watani.
Such injustices allow assailants to escape justice and send Islamic extremists the message that they can commit crimes with impunity, he said.
Last October Makarios had said that it has been years since Egypt had suffered the flurry of church closures and assaults on Christians and their properties in one month. Four churches were closed over two weeks after Islamic extremists attacked three churches in Minya Governorate. Egypt ranked 17th on Christian support organization Open Doors’ 2018 World Watch List of the countries where it is most difficult to be a Christian.

Following the downing of a Russian plane by Syrian fire intended for Israeli planes, Russian-Israeli relations have been subjected to an ongoing rollercoaster ride.
Russia’s decision on Monday that it intends to deliver its advanced S-300 anti-aircraft system to Syria risks further deepening the ongoing Russian-Israeli diplomatic crisis. It also threatens to further destabilize an already volatile situation in Syria.

Moscow’s latest move is a sharp deviation from President Vladimir Putin’s relative conciliatory tone towards Israel last week. In addition, Russia’s defense minister Sergei Shoigu declared that Russia’s military intends to jam satellite navigation systems and communication systems of aircraft attacking targets in Syria. This was clearly a veiled warning to the Israeli Air Force and NATO forces operating in the area.
Is there more than meets the eye?
Washington and Jerusalem have already protested vocally against Moscow’s decision to supply its more advanced anti-aircraft system to Syria. This is not the first time that Russia has declared its decision to deliver more advanced weapon systems to Damascus. In the past, carrots and sticks from Washington and Jerusalem convinced Russia to postpone it deliveries of the S-300 anti-aircraft system to the Syrians. The question is whether Russia will be in an accommodating mood this time.
When it comes to Russian-Israeli relations, President Putin has long played the role as the good cop. However, the Russian Defense Ministry is fuming after Moscow recently lost a military plane and 15 aviators. In public, it is blaming Israel despite that it was Syrian fire that downed the Russian plane.

While Putin appears committed to continued strong Russian-Israeli bilateral relations, he needs to balance those with pressures and demands from Russia’s military establishment. The downing of the Russian plane also present a unique opportunity for Moscow to justify the delivery of the advanced Russian anti-aircraft system to Syria.
The Israeli Air Force (IAF) has been practising for many years for scenarios involving the advanced Russian anti-aircraft system. Israel likely has the operational experience and technological skills to overcome the new formidable military challenges presented by Russia’s recently declared move.
While the IAF will need to be more cautious in future operations in Syria, it is unlikely that any Russian military system will be able to end Israeli operations against crucial military targets inside Syria completely. However, if Israel will be forced to neutralize Russia’s advanced anti-aircraft system, it could potentially deepen already deteriorating relations between Jerusalem and Moscow.
It is likely still possible to reverse much of the ongoing Russian-Israeli tensions in Syria. Like Jerusalem, Moscow is interested in stability inside Syria and opposes Iran’s military entrenchment in the wartorn country. Moscow also depends on Israel for advanced drone technologies. Bilateral military cooperation is mutually beneficial for Russia and Israel.
Where the Russian-Israeli relations are heading in the coming future, largely depend on the next moves made by Moscow, Washington, Jerusalem and Tehran.

I dati presi in considerazione sono relativi alle aste succedutesi dal 18 febbraio 2015 al 26 luglio 2018. E il primo riscontro è il seguente: gli stranieri che hanno deciso di acquistare un alloggio popolare sono aumentati di anno in anno fino a superare, nei primi 7 mesi del 2018, gli italiani. Nel 2015 gli appartamenti acquistati da italiani ammontavano a 190 a fronte dei 29 acquistati da stranieri, nel 2016 si sono contati 151 appartamenti ceduti a italiani e 64 a stranieri, l’anno successivo 166 a italiani e 87 a stranieri. Da gennaio a luglio 2018 si è consumato il sorpasso: gli stranieri si sono aggiudicati 95 appartamenti, gli italiani 79. Nell’arco degli ultimi tre anni e mezzo, gli extracomunitari hanno comprato il 32% delle case vendute da Aler Milano: nel dettaglio 275 su 863. E tra questi sono i cinesi a primeggiare: a loro è andato il 30% degli alloggi acquistati da extracomunitari. Seguono nordafricani e asiatici. Le periferie incluse in queste aste sono le storiche: San Siro (piazzale Selinunte), Gratosoglio (via Costantino Baroni e Saponaro), Quarto Oggiaro (via De Pisis) o Comasina. Non è finita, però. Dall’analisi degli esiti delle aste emergono anche altri due dati. Il primo: Aler fa fatica a vendere. Il secondo: Aler, fuori dal capoluogo, non vende proprio. Dal 2015 al luglio 2018 gli appartamenti offerti all’asta, tra città e provincia, sono stati 1.398. Di questi, come detto, sono stati venduti 863, pari al 61,7%. Quattro alloggi ogni 10 restano nel limbo. Quelli finiti all’asta e localizzati fuori Milano sono stati 342. Ma solo 82 sono stati venduti, solo il 24%. In entrambi i casi, Aler incassa meno di quanto potrebbe e, soprattutto, di quanto preventivato.
Numeri che suscitano dibattito. «Mi viene da sorridere perché la Giunta della Regione, per le assegnazioni delle case popolari, ha fatto un regolamento folle e inapplicabile con l’obiettivo di favorire il mix sociale nei quartieri e in particolare, uso le loro parole, gli italiani – ricorda Carmela Rozza, consigliere regionale del Pd –. Ma quando si tratta di vendere e incassare va tutto bene. Il punto vero è che questi dati fotografano la demagogia delle loro affermazioni e delle loro leggi. Senza contare che il nuovo regolamento per le assegnazioni, promesso per metà settembre, e la relativa legge sono in stallo totale. Infine, sarebbe meglio organizzare una campagna informativa efficace per far sapere ai cittadini che ci sono le aste».
L’Aassessore regionale alle Politiche abitative non ci sta: «Gli stranieri che acquistano le case popolari hanno il reddito per poterlo fare e i requisiti per aprire un mutuo – replica Stefano Bolognini –, mentre sul fronte delle graduatorie succede ci sia chi fa il furbo, presenta dichiarazioni mendaci, soprattutto sui beni posseduti nel Paese d’origine, scavalca gli italiani senza averne diritto e poi non paga l’affitto. Sono due ambiti e due fenomeni diversi. Le nuove regole per l’assegnazione saranno approvate in Giunta entro ottobre ed entro marzo entrerà in vigore la nuova legge. Quanto all’invenduto nell’hinterland – conclude Bolognini –, il problema esiste ma ci stiamo già lavorando: stiamo pensando di dare quegli alloggi in affitto calmierato ad alcune categorie particolari di lavoratori dell’hinterland, ad esempio gli agenti di polizia penitenziaria in servizio in carceri quali Opera o Bollate, e gli infermieri degli ospedali. Per questo ho già incontrato Jacopo Morrone, sottosegretario alla Giustizia, e Luigi Pagano, provveditore regionale alle carceri».

Ancestry ha annunciato questo fine settimana che sta collaborando con il servizio di streaming musicale Spotify per un’offerta insolita. Attraverso i risultati del tuo test AncestryDNA, Spotify ti proporra` un “mix di musica, ispirato alle tue origini”, secondo un comunicato stampa.
È un’idea carina. Ma consegnare le tue informazioni genetiche per un motivo non medico è, per usare un eufemismo, avventato.Lo scrittore di SPIN Rob Arcand, ha citato un’indagine di ThinkProgress che ha scoperto che i termini di servizio di Ancestry stabiliscono che la società rivendica la proprietà del DNA dei clienti.Le preoccupazioni sulla privacy con i kit di DNA come Ancestry o 23andMe non sono teorici.
